Bible Humor

Last Sunday, Pastor Guy wrote a sermon entitled “Godʻs Messengers”.
In his sermon, he spoke of the First Commandment “Have no other Godʻs before me”. Pastor Guy focused on an event that took place in the book of 1 Kings 18:20–40. In a nutshell, it says; Elijah came near to all the people and said, “How long will you go limping between two different opinions? If the Lord is God, follow him; but if Baal, then follow him.”As you read that passage, Elijah called on the followers of Baal to sing, dance, scream and shed their own blood to get Baal to burn the wood and sacrifice. Well, nothing happened to the bull or the wood he was laying on. When Elijah asked God to light the wood, it happened, with a vengence! Even after being soaked with water!
Hereʻs the “in your face” part of the story; Elijah mocked them saying, “why didnʻt your god, Baal, answer your screams and sacrifice? Either he is musing (being entertained), relieving himself, (bathroom), on a journey, or asleep. (It was embarrassing to the Baalers). Although the embarrassment didnʻt last long, God had Elijah kill all 450 of the pagan priests!
Another humorous story is when a young man named Eutychus was sitting in a window watching Paul speak. After watching for a long period of time, Eutychus fell asleep and fell out of a third story window. Acts 20:7-11 explains that Eutychus died! (thatʻs not funny). Paul went down to him, embraced him. He shouted out loud! Paul said; “Donʻt be alarmed, Heʻs alive!” Then Paul went back upstairs and ate his dinner.Just in case you missed it, Paul performed a resurrection in this story!
There are so many stories in the Bible that can make you chuckle. Donʻt forget to read about the talking donkey in Numbers 22:22-31.Or how a worm ate Jonahʻs shade in Jonah 4:6-7. Donʻt even get me started on Solomonʻs description of his bride! In Song of Songs 4:1-5 he writes; Your hair is like a flock of goats and your teeth like newly sheared sheep? I canʻt think of many wives that would tolerate that one!!
Enjoy your reading!
