Acupuncture, Like Church Work?

Iʻve been dealing with a “stiff neck” for about two months now. Before I went the “Go Fund Me” route, I thought I would try alternative medicine, ie: Acupuncture.
I made an appointment with a highly credentialed and recommended acupuncturist. Entering his office, I found it to be extremely clean and I didnʻt have time to read all his credentials on the wall. VERY impressive! Everything was cool until he started placing needles in my left foot, ankles, forearm and forhead. My pain was on the right side of my head, behind my ear! Long story short, it worked! My pain was deminished by at least 50% and my fears of being treated by a “quack” were relieved.
I was thinking about a blog topic when I started thinking about the similarities of acupuncture therapy and our ministry here at church. My comparison is not meant to equate the two, but to show how both seek healing and restoration.
- Both seek healing; One physical and the other, spiritual. Psalm 147:3 He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds”
- Both address underlying causes rather than only symptoms. Physical pain vs. Spiritual brokenness. Proverbs 4:23 “Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you flows from it”
- Both require compassion and careful listening. James 1:19 “Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry”.
The acupuncturist spends time listening to the patients history. Pastors, elders and church leaders listen with compassion in order to provide biblical counsel and ensure that their faith remains centered on Christ!
Most important is that acupuncture therapy is temporary while spritual healing through Jesus Christ is eternal!!
Blessings!
