Servant Leadership

In Matthew 20:28, Jesus teaches us, “But whoever wants to be first among you must be your servant, just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve and to give his life as a ransom for many.”
In a world where most people (including us) are concerned primarily with ourselves, these words of Jesus are often a foreign thought. And yet for Jesus’ followers, it is our way of life. We love because, He first loved us. We serve because He first served us.
This week I have been leading games at VBS and I’m working with four youth, ranging in age from 6th-9th grade. Watching these boys serve has been incredibly encouraging. Over the last week, I’ve watched them go above and beyond to serve the kids of VBS, even though they are just a year or two older than some. And as I watch these young men, I can’t help but notice they are different from other youth. There is something or maybe better yet, someone different in them. Jesus their Lord, is teaching them a lot about Christian Leadership. So every time I see these youth putting themselves aside to serve the kids attending VBS, I am encouraged.
And what’s so awesome, is there are many more youth and adults volunteering for VBS this week. What a blessing to be a part of God’s work and just like any of the work we do for Him in life, we as the leaders are serving for no personal benefit, but simply our love for our neighbor.
Alleluia and praise the Lord for a place to serve. Praise the Lord for VBS.
God’s Peace,
Guy Roberts, Senior Pastor
