Sunday Mornings
I love Sunday mornings. I have always liked them, but the time grows sweeter as I live and grow in Jesus. One of my favorite things about our gathered time of worship is hearing voices in unison, giving glory to God, either through songs, prayers, or creeds. This gathered proclamation is ancient, it is current, and it is our destiny.
The Gloria Patri states it like this: Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit, as it was in the beginning is now and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.
In the beginning, God spoke the universe into being and there was a song of glorious praise. God reveals to Job that “the morning stars sang together and all the angels shouted for joy” as he laid the foundations of the world. Now, that song of glory continues to ring through every layer of the cosmos, even though we live in an age marked by sin and sorrow. In the future (ever shall be) we will be fitted for heaven and our destiny will be to glorify God and enjoy him forever, without sin and sorrow.
It can be easy to have tunnel vision when it comes to times of gathered worship and to regard both our lives and our times of worship as singular and isolated events. But how beautiful to think of it as a thread in a giant, beautiful tapestry that started at the beginning of time and continues forever.
