Tis the Season
Last year I was in a little Christmas funk, I kept thinking I have to go to this program, I have to go back to the grocery store again, I have to go to the store to buy another present I had forgotten and so on and so on. I’m normally all about the Christmas season! My tree is up after Halloween (yes, Halloween), nativities up, decorations done, presents bought and wrapped, and love going to all of Colorado’s wonderful Christmas festivities. But not last year.
My friend shared a podcast with me that God was directing right at me. The podcast talked about finding JOY in the season. Turning all the have-tos into get-tos. I get to go to my kiddos’ programs, I get to go back to the grocery store to buy food for my wonderful family, I get to buy another gift for a friend that I know will love it.
We have so many things to be thankful for and joyous about. We have enough food on the table. We have a warm roof over our head. We have a loving God who sent His son to Earth to live and die for our sins. Jesus is the reason for Christmas. Jesus gives us joy in everything.
There’s so much joy I still have ahead. So many blessings.
Ecclesiastes 5:19-20 NIV
“Moreover, when God gives someone wealth and possessions, and the ability to enjoy them, to accept their lot and be happy in their toil—this is a gift of God. They seldom reflect on the days of their life, because God keeps them occupied with gladness of heart.” NIV Bible
Jesus wants us to honor Him in this season, the one who came to save us through joy not annoyance.
As we do all the Christmas things, let’s fill them with joy and peace from God and the birth of His son, our Lord Jesus Christ. Kelsey Wilbern – Adult Education and New Member Coordinator
