For You Are With Me

What’s the first thing that comes to mind when you think of the word “fear?” For me, a couple wordly things come to mind. Actually, the very first thing that comes to mind is heights. Now one thing about me is I HATE heights. I remember having to move the projectors here at Peace and having to go up in the scissor lift. Now when I say I was shaking when I got to the top…well…that’s an understatement. Maybe we think of some internal things too, not being good enough, not reaching a goal, falling short of our potential, maybe even letting someone close to us down. Maybe letting God down? These are all things that pop into my mind when I think of the word fear.

Another word that pops into my head is the antithesis of fear in my mind. Trust. How much stress would we have lifted off our shoulders if we just trust that things would work out? If we just trust that God’s timing is perfect. It’s funny you know, no matter how many times God proves to us this is true, it’s still so difficult to let go of stress and worry. EVEN THOUGH God tells us this in his Word time and time again. Even though He shows us in our lives again and again. I guess one part of trust is also letting go of control. Letting go and letting God if you will.

Psalm 23:4, “Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I will FEAR NO EVIL, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.” WOW, how’s that for a promise directly from the Word. You know what’s cool about all this? EVEN THOUGH WE DOUBT, even though it’s hard to trust, God still wraps His arms around us and comforts us. He still carries us through the hardest times of our lives, and delivers us through everything. Time and time again. I mean, think about it, it isn’t in our timing, it sometimes isn’t how quickly we want things to change. Every time, He delivers us through though. This verse has been a rock for me in so many low moments in my life.

Today, try this. In your prayer time, think about some times that God has shown up in a huge way in your life. Thank Him for those moments. Show Him how grateful you are for those moments. How grateful you are for His capitol L Love. I think in the hardest moments in our lives, gratitude and trust are two of our best weapons to battle against it. His timing is perfect. Remember, even though I walk through the darkest valleys, I will fear no evil; for You are with me.
