Gratitude and Giving: It All Belongs to God
This time of year, we’re reminded to pause and give thanks, but as Christians, gratitude isn’t just a seasonal thing; it’s a way of life.
Now, here’s a thought that’s both humbling and inspiring: everything we have belongs to God. We’ve heard Pastor Guy preach this many times. Every blessing in our lives, from the roof over our heads to the mashed potatoes on our plates comes from Him. That’s why Psalm 24:1 hits us right in the feels: “The earth is the Lord’s, and everything in it, the world, and all who live in it.” God owns it all. It’s all His. We’re just stewards.
And that brings us to serving others. If all we have belongs to God, what better way to show our gratitude than by sharing those blessings with others? Whether it’s your time, talents, or treasure, when we serve, we reflect God’s love and generosity. Jesus said it best in Matthew 25:40: “Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.”
How can we serve others this season? Here are a few ideas:
• Help your neighbor: Got an elderly neighbor with leaves piling up or a driveway needing shoveling? Be the hands and feet of Jesus and help.
• Join a mission project: Whether it’s putting together care kits for the homeless, supporting our church food pantry, or signing up for a mission trip, there’s a place for everyone to pitch in.
• Invite someone to dinner: Hospitality is a ministry too! Who in your circle could use some warmth, food, and good company?
• Pray for someone: Never underestimate the power of lifting someone up in prayer. It’s a simple yet powerful way to serve.
Remember, serving others doesn’t have to be big or complicated. Sometimes, the small, everyday acts of kindness make the biggest difference. A kind word, a warm smile, or a helping hand can show someone the love of Christ in a tangible way.
So, as we wrap up this season of thanks and head into Advent, let’s keep this mindset: We are blessed to be a blessing. All we have belongs to God, so let’s use it to serve and share His love.
Blessings to you all, and let’s go make someone’s day a little brighter!
