The Eyes Have It

As some of you know, I had Cataract and Glaucoma surgery over the past three weeks. I must admit that I was a bit apprehensive of this surgery because of all the difficulty my wife had, including a torn retina! Well, since I’ve been battling cloudy vision for a couple years, I decided to be a good soldier and tough it out. Of course, talking to a lady at church ten years my senior, helped. She actually challenged my masculinity by telling me to suck it up and trust my surgeon. Better yet, trust my God!! She had it done two years ago with absolutely no issues. My surgery also went flawlessly. When things like that happen, I always feel a little embarrassed. Why was I so cautious? Why didn’t I reach out to God immediately?
Anyway, while laying in “pre-op”, I started to think about how waiting for eye surgery, was like working and waiting on some people close to me, to clear their vision. My son once told me that he understood what the Bible was saying when it talked about “scales falling from Saul’s eyes”. Acts 9:18. It took my son 27 years before the scales finally fell off his eyes. He could “see” Jesus again. He could “see” a better path laid out by our Savior. And now he can “see” what God has prepared for him! Laying in “pre-op”, I thought about how sometimes our “vision” becomes clouded or distracted, we simply take our eyes off Jesus. “Fix your eyes upon Jesus, the author and perfecter of faith”. Hebrews 12:2. Did you know that the word “eye” or “eyes” is used over 500 times in the Bible? Our eyes are obviously very important but they need to be disciplined, especially our spiritual eyes. Pastor Tim always asked the youth on our mission trips, “where did you see Jesus today?” Jesus is there but we need to keep our eyes open. If you look, you will see him. If you listen, you will hear him.
“I keep my eyes only on the Lord. With Him at my right hand, I will not be shaken”.
Psalms 16:8
Blessings on your week!!
