All Things Are Possible

I’m sure that you have probably heard a great deal about our trip to Guatemala. Having gone on several mission trips, I found Guatemala one of my favorites so when the opportunity arose, I jumped at it.

When I first signed up for this trip, I was expecting the usual 10-30 people to be attending. When Pastor Guy outlined his plan for this trip my first thought was, “yeah, right”.  Building four houses in one week seemed a little too aggressive, especially when we had to come up with $11,600 per house! Of course, I was also thinking 12-20 people. Impossible! With man this is impossible, but not with God; all things are possible with God. Mark 10:27. After many meetings and many prayers, things started to happen. People began signing up! Before we knew it, we had 100 people and well over $150K in donations.  (The first of many miracles)

We are co-workers in God’s service; we are in God’s field. His building. 1 Corinthians 3:9

As I mentioned, I’ve been on many International missions. I’ve never seen this kind of excitement, dedication and collaboration! The Peace family came together in a big way! The monetary gifts of the congregation were overwhelming.

Whenever I take a trip like this, I’m always amazed by the resiliency of the people in a third world country. For the most part, they are very hard working, joy filled and family oriented. I always come back to America thinking that, as a society, we have way too much stuff. Compared to the Guatemalan’s, maybe we do. I’ve always been one that believed that success is measured by doing the very best with what God has given you.  The people of Guatemala are doing the very best with what God has given them.  We fortunate Americans believe that our life is better, because we have more, never thinking that others can be very happy and content with their lives and their blessings even though we may not see it.

As Christians, all of us share the most important “stuff” of all.  We share the gift of Jesus and with that gift comes the promise of eternal life with Him. We’re all equal. No one person is greater than another.

Every house is built by someone, but God is the builder of everything. Hebrews 3:4.
