All Things New
Last week we had the opportunity to spend a few days with my son in Minneapolis. If you have followed my blog, you remember my son Nick struggled with drugs and alcohol for over 27 years! We had an amazing visit talking to his clients, in the treatment center, and watching his interaction with them. I personally spoke to people from 17 to 68 years old! All of them addicts, addicted to everything from alcohol and cigarettes to heroine and methamphetamines. Many hadn’t seen their families in years. They gave up loving relationships for false relationships that only Satan can provide.
My most interesting conversation was with a 68-year-old man. He had been trying to get “clean” for over 50 years! He had lost everything that was once dear to him. Family friends and job were a thing of the past. It wasn’t until he turned his life over to Christ that he found the peace, comfort,t and love that he had lost. 2 John 1:3 “Grace, mercy and peace from God the Father and from Jesus Christ, the Father’s Son, will be with us in truth and love.”
He told me how extremely difficult it was because he actually liked “walking in the darkness”. John 3:19 “This is the verdict: Light has come into the world, but people loved darkness instead of light because their deeds were evil.”
Just like my son, this gentleman has turned his life completely over to Jesus. He loves Jesus. He said he has promised never to never dishonor Him by going back to his “old self”. Romans 6:6 “For we know that our old self was crucified with him so that the body ruled by sin might be done away with.”
May the Lord bless and keep everyone that struggles with addiction. The day is coming when He will make “All things new”
