Are You Listening?

A couple weeks ago, we were at DIA getting ready to board a plane to Minnesota to see our son.
Iʻve always enjoyed people watching and there really is no better place to people watch than the airport. Well, I take that back. Watching the people in the Boulder Mall is extremely entertaining. I once saw a 6ʻ man fold himself into a little 2ʻ square box! I watched as several very unusual people were mesmerized by this contortionist. The facinating look on their faces was hilarious. (Sorry, I digress).
Back to DIA. As we were sitting, waiting for our boarding announcement, a voice came over the intercom system. “Your attention please”, followed by, “May I have your undivided attention please?” I, along with two other people, laid down our phones to listen. It was at that point that I looked around and witnessed 80% of the folks sitting in their seats, didnʻt even look up! They just sat there staring at their phones or engaging in a phone conversation! Granted, maybe they were able to muti-task much better than I, but they didnʻt even attempt to heed the announcement and possible warning from the airport officials. Iʻm thinking, bombscare, shooter, building fire, or a plane crash. (All the normal disaster movie scenarios). As it turned out, they wanted everyone to know that the airport trains had broken down. The disruption was going to cause about a one hour delay. No big deal, but… what if ???
Do you think thatʻs how it will be when Jesus comes back? During this audio/visual global event, will people try to slip in one more game of Candy Crush? Check on the Kardashians just one more time? As Christians, we canʻt wait for that day! We will get to see Jesus! But, will WE be ready? Are you ready? Heʻs going to come like a thief in the night. (1Thess. 5:2) “For you know very well that the day of the Lord will come like a thief in the night”. So, be ready! (Matt. 24:44) “So your also must be ready, because the Son of Man will come at an hour when you do not expect him.” Are your lamps lit? Stay in scripture! (Psalms 119:105) “Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path” (Luke 12:35) “Be dressed ready for service and keep your lamps burning”
The kingdom of the Lord is at hand, and Iʻm sure Heʻs not coming through an electronic device!
Blessings! Kent
