It’s Go Time!!!

One year ago, I moved here to begin serving Peace as Senior Pastor. Thank you bringing our family into your family of faith. Thank you for opening your homes and hosting cottage meetings, providing me opportunity to get to know many of you and learn about Peace.  Thank you for your excitement and encouragement along the way.  Maybe it’s presumptuous to say, but I feel as if the Lord has confirmed both your decision to call and our decision to accept.

The next few years are going to bring change.  While I don’t know what change we will experience, I am confident it’s coming.  You can’t send 100 members of a church to Guatemala to build homes for families without having it positively impact the mission and ministry of Peace. You can’t spend months exploring, planning, and praying for God to give you an opportunity to make a difference in people’s lives, without Him challenging us. You can’t have long term staff retire, and then raise up or call new staff without experiencing change.  As our Congregational President Amanda Grogan often says to the Council.  “Change is Change-ee!”  And we are about to face a pretty good amount.

As I see it, we can face future change in one of two ways…

  1. Resist at all Costs!  (Fingers in ears, eyes shut tight, making obnoxious loud noises so we can’t hear anything) Only to find ourselves (a little red cheeked and embarrassed) exactly where God wants us to be anyway. Or…
  2. Embrace His Will and Ask Him to Lead, praying, “Lord, Thy will be done.”

This month we are going to spend time intentionally asking the Lord’s will to be done. We’re going to discuss and dream. We’re going to evaluate and explore.  We’re going to challenge the Lord and one another, all the while praying boldly for His will to be done.  And we’re going to trust the Lord will answer.

Thank you to everyone who has filled out a Congregational Survey. Please do this if you haven’t yet.  Thank you to everyone who has committed to attending a small group Townhall Meeting.  Please do this if you haven’t yet.  Thank you to all who are planning on attending Peace’s first ever, Leadership Summit. (Saturday Feb. 22 – 8:00am-2:00pm)

It’s time to get to work for Jesus and make a difference in the lives of people here in Jefferson County, CO.  Whatever future He has for us, should start to be revealed this month.

As we move into the future of ministry here at Peace, I want to echo the sentiment of Paul who wrote the Ephesians in 3:20-21,

Now to Him who is able to do far more abundantly than all that we ask or think, according to the power at work within us, to Him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, forever and ever. Amen.

My encouragement to all of you is to expect Him to do far more than we have in mind.  This is who He is and how He works.  I can’t wait to see where He Leads!!! It’s Go Time!!!

In His Grip,
Pastor Guy Roberts

As we prepare for a month of strategic planning, I would invite you to read an article by Pastor Jeff Cloeter from Christ Memorial Lutheran in St. Louis, MO. I’m sharing this article because Pastor Cloeter presents my heart for mission better than I could myself.  I believe this article graciously and accurately reflects both the challenges and opportunities before us.  At the very least this article should be a good conversation starter. Let me know what you think. Loved and Sent Article
